Know Your Motorcycle Safety Awareness

Your Small Business Needs Insurance, But What Insurance Is Right for It?

Be aware of the dangers that face every motorcyclist and know how to ride safely, and share the road with bikers.

Motorcycles are fuel efficient, and they are also incredibly fun to ride. This news isn’t new to anyone that has gotten the privilege of riding. As fun and fuel efficient as they may be, they don’t come with their own baggage. Where they make up for in efficiency, they lack in safety. And it makes sense: cars have more mass and require more fuel, motorcycles are relatively light and require less fuel. This absence of mass and smaller size makes motorcycles particularly dangerous to ride with other vehicles. Motorcycles can be dangerous, but if you use these tips while you ride, you’ll safely share the road with all motor vehicles.

  1. Always Wear a Helmet

You may think you have a hard head, but should your cranium hit solid concrete going at high speeds it’ll crack like an egg. A bit graphic, but we want to get across how important helmets are when it comes to saving lives. Make sure that your helmet received its DOT certification for safety.

  1. Wear Appropriate Gear
  • Gloves: The first thing you’re going to do when you fall is put your hands up to break your fall. Concrete and hands don’t go well together, but with the right gloves, you won’t damage your hands (all that much).
  • Jackets: You may see people riding in t-shirts, and they may look cool but when they fall and tumble they’re going to get nasty cuts. With the right jacket your can protect your skin (and your expensive clothes).
  • Reflective Gear: Make sure that you’re visible! Your gear should be reflective so that cars and other vehicles can see you.
  1. Pretend No One Can See You

A safe assumption to make to keep you safe. Only switch lanes when you know you can make it. If you have any doubts, just wait a few seconds for another opening. If you miss your exit, just take the next one. It’s not the end of the world.
